    Runner Safety

Running and walking are great activities to keep you active and healthy. Running/Walking keeps your body strong, your mind sharp, and your soul free. Runners/Walkers are health-conscious people, and can also be rigid, bull headed- even reckless people. The paradox that is us! Since November is National Running Safety Month, we want to share a few ways you can stay as safe as possible out there!

Run/Walk visible- Running in the dark is a way of life for most of us, who have to squeeze in our running around work and family obligations. And running in the dark has its perks- no one can judge your form or whether your shirt and shorts match! However, running in the dark can be dangerous, too. I mean, let’s be honest, running is hard enough in daylight! Light up your path with a Black Diamond Headlamp to avoid letting any curbs get the best of you. In addition to being able to see, it’s important to be seen while running in the dark. Wearing an Amphipod reflective vest or belt, or clipping an Amphipod visibility boosting LEDs, will help cars see you and steer clear. Shop our Runner Safety Collection to see all the great products Get Fit carries that can make you more visible.

Run/Walk protected- Carry a personal alarm, pepper spray, or 9mm to be able to defend yourself from potential predators or vicious attack dogs. The Sabre Personal Alarm features a 120 decibel alarm that can be heard up to 1,300 feet away, flashing strobe light, and easily clips to clothing. Get Fit also carries Go Guarded- a company for runners, founded by a runner, that strives to empower women by providing uniquely designed self-defense tools that are convenient, comfortable, effective, and affordable. Elevate your running safety with the Go Guarded Ring, Pepper Spray and hand-held blade duo, or the Stun Gun with blade duo.

Run/Walk with others- Perhaps the best way to practice safe running is to run in a group. There really is safety in numbers! You’re more visible to traffic and more likely to dissuade any would-be attackers. Running with others isn’t just safer than running alone, it’s also more fun! Join Get Fit’s Shelldon’s Superstars community to get connected with a great group of local runners. Stay up to date on our upcoming Events, such as shoe demo events, group runs, and more, by checking out our Events Page, or by following us on social media!

Running and walking are good for you, and we want you to be safe today so you can hit the streets again tomorrow. And the next day. And the day after that. :-)
